Second Chapter

So, now we get to know Ursula Riggs. Or is it Ugly Girl?
The recurring, suggestive statements like "Ugly Girl didn't care" or "As if Ugly Girl would go down for any guy, or any human being, ever!"(p.11, l.10)instantly reminded me of a very interesting book by Dr. Joseph Murphy, that I read last year. In this, you learn how to impact your subconscious with suggestive phrases, improving your life and banning fears.
In my opinion, Ursula Riggs does this to herself in combination with her "schizophrenic" creation Ugly Girl. From that day on, she is able, to protect her weak and vulnerable personality and keeps impacting her subconscious. She repeatedly tells herself, that Ugly Girls don't cry, they don't fear anything, they don't need friends etc., turning herself into a "warrior woman".
But still, she can't completely hide Ursula Riggs, as you can see during their basketball match: Suddenly she notices "derisive eyes, jeering faces, hands mock clapping", which makes her feel insecure...Her real personality shows!
