Good day everybody.
As you all know, every year a very special person is awarded with a prize for acting selflessly and showing civil courage.
I would like to nominate a young woman, who actually seems to be quite careless about other people, but this week, gave an excellent example as a nominee for this prize:
Matt Donaghy, a young boy of Rocky River High, was falsely accused of planning a school massacre and bombing the whole school. Soon rumours spread like a fire in a haystack, not only destroying his reputation, but also making people fear unnecessarily.
Ursula Riggs was one of the people, who knew the truth: A dumb joke, whose only intention was to make friends laugh, was misunderstood and interpreted as an actual bomb threat.
Different from a lot of others, she took the initiative and went to the school principal, to explain the situation. It was a success! Now an independent witness supported the theory of Matt, who had been questioned by policemen about the case before.
If you think about it: she could have just let everything happen, fearing being seen as a conspirator. Furthermore, her whole family tried to stop her, but she still stood up against the rest.
So all in all, Ursula Riggs managed to be different from the big group of wrappers and to be self-confident, enabling her to save the life of an innocent boy from being ruined. Thank you Ursula!
